" Streamlining, the drag coefficient, also sometimes called the Cd value, and more colloquially as today's 'tear-drop' and 'muscle car' design, appear to these advanced contemporaries to be at once both cheap and pretentious. In the words of designer Darius Zieba, the doctrine goes something like this: "There is no longer any future in designing cars which look as though they are moving even when they are standing still. Although, until recently, that was the ultimate in car design." It once seemed that the transition from the boxes of the early thirties, such as the rectangular Opel P4, to the revolutionary streamlined Chrysler Airflow was irreversible.

Since then, that aerodynamic shape and streamlined livery have been written into the car designer's handbook. So how come, today, angular, square-shaped, boxy cars such as the Fiat Panda from 1980 (advertising slogan: "Die tolle Kiste"... "The fabulous box") are once again such a hot commodity amongst industry insiders?

The answer to this question lies in the shape's symbolic function. Zieba again: "We were once developing a streamlined car design for an automobile manufacturer. The team leader came to us and said, 'To tell you the truth, that's no better than a lorry.' And he was able to demonstrate this to us immediately in the virtual wind tunnel." The lorry, with its long box-shaped trailer actually performed better in relative terms. Anything to do with aerodynamics is quite complicated in any case. Let's look for instance at the Porsche 911 (1985) and the Fiat Panda from the same year. Both have a Cd value of 0.38. Aerodynamic drag increases exponentially, so at a speed of 200 the Panda would, of course, perform worse than the Porsche. But for vehicles not set on breaking any speed records anyway, such as town cars, one can say that, in principle, an angular vehicle shape does nothing to adversely affect its aerodynamics. "

I also wish at long last for interiors which with regard to space, proportions, air and light reveal architectural qualities, spaces with furniture that invite you to live. With windows that do justice to their names. Genuine, big, light windows. Like the ones at home. And I wish for something pleasing, because we can really no longer like the aggressive, progressive, transgressive face of current automobiles, the insufferably cool face of man's best enemy. Preferable honest and without make-up, be it reputable or smiling. "A model for the future?

Thanks to cooperation with Western companies, competitive prices and the scrappage allowance, a few Eastern European car manufacturers have managed to break into Western Europe of late. Eastern European car manufacturers owned by Western capital continue to bring their models more and more into line with Western brands in terms of equipment, comfort, size and price. Perhaps the reverse path, or rather, the path "back to the roots" would be the better one to follow: the production of small, uncomplicated cars, whose equipment and performance were reduced to the basic necessities.

After all: the fewer the number of components the less that can go wrong. And the less equipment, the less weight; no electric motors to open the windows, to adjust the external mirrors or for the central locking; no air-conditioning system - the additional energy used to run air-conditioning in German cars is enough for the energy needs of several small towns - and no on-board computer. A car like that would be cheap to buy and to maintain and, thanks to today's technology, would also be more eco-friendly. The technology would be simple and hence durable and could be repaired by owners themselves without their needing a lot of technical knowledge. Cars from Eastern Europe already came close to this ideal. And so their simplicity and robust build - combined with today's technology - really could become a model for the automobile sector in the future. At least as far as small cars and specific markets are concerned."

Aston Martin thesis summer 2009

'The Captured Beauty' an aesthetic research project, was brainstormed and designed utilizing concept illustrations and 3D modeling.
The project studies , the spirit of butterfly , as an interpretation to values and aspects of Aston Martin, which undergoes metamorphosis to an inorganic volume, a result whose aspects are subtracted and further utilized to creating an aesthetic volume study of a vehicle.

As a conclusion to our end term of school thesis, we presented an interior concept , built out of strengthened chords which weaves with exterior body , in a repetitive pattern , which gives a visual impression of a closed volume, and retaining certain of it functional attributes .
